If you ask Nick how he and Emily met, he will say he was holding interviews…and then refuse to elaborate.
It's the truth, sort of - instead of girlfriend interviews, he was instead helping interview for an open
position at his workplace. Emily managed to land the job, and the two of them were placed on the same team.
Colleagues quickly turned to friends, which in turn became best friends due to having so much in common.
They later learned that a lot of their work colleagues assumed they were already an item and were just keeping
it quiet, which was understandable given their habit of splitting meals together whenever they all went out.
Regardless, it wasn't until deep into pandemic lockdowns when Nick mentioned his plans to leave the job that
Emily took the leap. This was to the apparent surprise of Nick, who had not considered the possibility.
Thankfully, a few weeks later he agreed to wanting to try dating and the two have been inseparable ever since.

The first thing Nick and Emily ever truly bonded over was their shared love of Animal Crossing.
That's why when it was announced that there was not only going to be a new Animal Crossing entry,
but a special edition Nintendo Switch to accompany the release, they both were extremely excited.
Unfortunately, Emily missed the pre-order of the limited edition Switch - which meant trying to
navigate potentially procuring one on the release day itself. Further unfortunate was the release
day landing on the Friday before the world seemingly shut down due to COVID - so stores were likely
to be packed. The night before, Nick offered to stay up with Emily to see if it were possible to
reserve a Switch online at midnight. That endeavor proved to be fruitless when they learned the
special edition Switch was only to be purchased in-store. Defeated, Emily went to bed with the
thought of waking up early to try and brave shopping in-person.
Unbeknownst to Emily, Nick had other plans. Early that morning, Nick drove to Target in the rain
and outsmarted a teenage girl (pro tip: always ask the associate first) to walk out with a special
edition Animal Crossing Switch in hand. By the time Emily was awake, Nick was able to share his
bounty and arrange for a pickup. Because their job was testing out working from home, they met up
that evening (At a Denny's, because Emily's car broke down) for the exchange and celebratory drinks.
That Switch (and Animal Crossing) became a lifeline during the pandemic, with both Emily and Nick
sprucing up their islands for special visitors and trading messages. Once they were together, Animal
Crossing became a useful tool to meet parents and friends at a safe distance. Nick and Emily still
use their Animal Crossing switches to this day, and occasionally boot up their islands to reminisce.
Every year in Emily's hometown, there's a flower festival held at the end of April with food, a craft
fair, and carnival rides. Unfortunately, late April 2020 was deep into lockdown - cancelling the
festival. After Emily mentioned to Nick that only viewing the flowers at home just wasn't the same,
Nick had the great idea to have flowers delivered to Emily as a surprise. Emily, who already had a huge
crush on Nick at this point, cherished the flowers and even dried them - they now sit in a shadowbox on
the wall in their shared home. While they officially started dating in August - it was during that time
of year where the days seem to blend together and truthfully neither remember the exact date. Instead,
they celebrate their flowerversary which falls on April 29th, because they both remember that.
A few months into dating, it was clear the current work situation they were both in wasn't tenable. Nick
and Emily agreed they were in it for the long haul, so they agreed to research together where they would
like to apply for jobs. After a bit of deliberation, they decided on the Boston Metro Area - it had the
jobs, was still close enough to family that visiting wasn't prohibitively difficult, and had a bunch of
nice amenities. Once they both secured new jobs, the apartment search was on - it took two rounds of
visiting the surrounding area (mostly because Emily thought Cambridge was going to feel unwelcoming and
was thoroughly proven wrong) but they fell in love with an apartment complex right next to Alewife station.
A few years later, having fallen in love with the area, Emily and Nick decided to try purchasing a home.
